A Lifetime of Leadership

Are you born to lead, or do you learn to lead? It’s both! There’s something different in the DNA of a gifted leader that makes them want the responsibility. But desire only goes so far. You have to work hard to continuously improve. Are you ready to work? Good! You’ve come to the right place.

As the oldest of three boys, I embraced my calling to be a leader at a young age. I accepted the responsibility to be a role model and protector. No one had to sit me down to explain it. It became who I am.

Throughout my school years, in sports and in academics, I sought opportunities to represent the teams and groups to which I belonged. I watched and listened to my most respected coaches, teachers, and mentors. I read about great leaders and sought to imitate them.

When I entered the working world, nothing changed. Whenever groups were formed, formally and informally, I was usually chosen to lead them. I joined associations where I learned to communicate effectively, to process information to make decisions in the face of uncertainty, and to build and lead teams that were motivated and genuinely cared for each other.

I was blessed to work at a company with great leaders of the highest integrity in a growing market that provided every opportunity to excel. I grabbed that bull by both horns, and with the help of thousands of people around America and my own outstanding team, we built the largest owner and operator of electric generation in the country. Along the way, we helped thousands of landowners, construction workers, school children, and hundreds of communities reach their dreams.

In 2024, I retired from the career I had built over nearly 40 years to pursue what had become my calling — helping leaders at all stages of their journey become men and women worth following. I’m here to help you! While I don’t have all the answers, I do know the questions to ask. I’ve got a lifetime of learning to share. Let’s do this—TOGETHER!

Why 3?

Why is the number 3 woven throughout JD3 Lead™?

Because three represents balance.

Consider a tripod. Whether it’s supporting a camera capturing life’s greatest moments, a surveyor’s instrument laying out a foundation, or a telescope exploring the heavens, a tripod is trusted because it provides exceptional stability. But that stability depends on one thing: balance. Each leg must be strong, properly positioned, and share the load. If one leg is weak, out of place, or carrying too much of the weight, the entire tripod becomes unstable.

Leadership works the same way.

Too often, leaders become consumed by results while neglecting people. Others care deeply for people but avoid difficult decisions. Still others possess impeccable character but fail to develop those around them. Sustainable leadership requires balance.

At JD3 Lead™, we believe exceptional leadership rests on three foundational principles:

  • Lead with Integrity.
  • Serve with Humility.
  • Develop People Relentlessly.

These principles are not independent of one another—they support one another.

Integrity without humility can become arrogance.

Humility without integrity can become passivity.

Developing people without integrity or humility can produce influence without character.

Like the three legs of a tripod, each principle strengthens the others. Together, they create the balance that allows leaders to remain steady through both success and adversity.

The number three is also one of the most powerful organizing principles in human communication. Throughout history, people have understood, remembered, and acted upon ideas presented in groups of three.

  • Faith, Hope, and Love.
  • Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.
  • Stop, Look, and Listen.
  • Three creates clarity.
  • Three creates focus.
  • Three creates balance.

For people of faith, the number three carries even deeper significance. Scripture repeatedly uses the number three to symbolize completeness and God’s perfect work. Jonah spent three days in the great fish. Peter denied Jesus three times before being restored. Most importantly, Jesus Christ rose from the dead on the third day, providing hope and salvation for all who believe.

At JD3 Lead™, the number three is more than branding.

It is a reminder that the strongest leaders are those who remain balanced—leaders who anchor every decision in integrity, serve others with humility, and invest relentlessly in developing people.

  • Seven Essentials.
  • Three Principles.
  • One Purpose.

Helping leaders become the best version of themselves while bringing out the best in others.
